2013 Post Season All Star Teams

In additioin to running the Team Maryland All Stars for the FBU National Championship Tournament, Grassroots has the privilege and honor to be in charge of the selection of 2 of the most elite Post Season All Star Opportunities for middle school student athletes in the DMV.

Option #1: 8th Grade Chesapeake Bowl Team

The Chesapeake Bowl is the premiere event of the Mid Atlantic Football Foundation.  It is a senior only all-star football game with players from the North (New Jersey,Pennsylvania & Delaware) competing against players from the South (Maryland,Washington, D.C., Virginia & West Virginia).

In the first two years of the game, the Bowl has had over 170 players with D1 offers and over 150 players ranked by national recruiting services.  The goal of the Chesapeake Bowl is to provide its players and coaches with a unique experience for the high school level.  The players and coaches of the Chesapeake Bowl will be hosted over a four day period with activities and practices leading up to the game to provide a true “bowl” like atmosphere.

Just like the US Army All American Bowl, which features the Eastbay 7th and 8th Grade All American Bowls for the youth, the Chesapeake Bowl offers a youth All Star Opportunity and the organizers asked Grassroots to run the game.  We are responsible for selecting the teams, selecting the coaches, and organizing the spectacular event for a select group of 8th Graders.

Last year's Youth Chesapeake Bowl was played at the Sports and Learning Complex in the snow and it was amazing! this year the game is being moved to Va Beach on December 28th at the Va Beach Sportsplex and will be a star studded affair.  The Friday Night Banquet will be sensational and the kids will truly be treated like royalty.  Team will travel to Va Beach on Dec 26th for 3 days of practice prior to the game.

The Chesapeake Bowl is in its 4th year and has alumni that include Kevin Hogan (Stanford), Darius Jennings (Virginia) and over 300 college football players. Rivals, Scout and 247 Sports considered the Chesapeake Bowl the top regional all-star game in the country. This will also e the fourth year that we will have  an 8th grade game in the tradition.  The game will be held Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Virginia Beach Sportsplex. Please find the registration link below.

If selected, there is a commitment fee of $100.00 to play in the Chesapeake Bowl game.  This fee is part of the online registration and sign up for the game.

Option #2: 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Crab Bowl All Star Teams

Maryland's only statewide high school football all star game. The game will feature the best senior all stars from public and private schools in the state of Maryland.

The Game will consist of 90 players split on 2 different regional teams. The Washington regional team will consist of players from Montgomery, Prince George's, Anne Arundel, Calvert, St.Mary's, Charles counties, and the Eastern Shore. The Baltimore regional teams will consist of players from Howard, Baltimore County, Baltimore City. Frederick, Washington, Allegheny, Cecil, Harford, Carroll, and Garrett.

Just as with the Chesapeake Bowl, the Crab Bowl organizers have asked Grassroots to select players and coaches to fill the 3 different teams for this game.  We will select 35 6th Graders, 35 7th Graders, and 35 8th Graders for both the Eastern part of the DMV and the Western part of the DMV.  That will be a total of 70 at each grade level and a grand total of 210 players.

We are very excited to build the youth Crab Bowl to the same level as the High School game.  What we love so much about the Crab Bowl is that it will be played right here at McDaniel College in Westminster, MD.  That will allow all of the local public and private high school coaches to see these kids up close and evaluate them in an All Star setting.  As much as we enjoy the travel of FBU and the Chesapeake Bowl, very few if any of the local high school coaches are going to be traveling with us.

This is a great opportunity for players who are good, but may not be deep on the radar yet, to really get some good exposure in the heart of the recruiting season.

The Army National Guard Crab Bowl is in its 6th year and has alumni that include Tavon Austin (WVU/ St. Louis Rams), Jelani Jenkins (Florida, Miami Dolphins), 5 other NFL players, and over 450 college football players. Rivals, Scout and 247 Sports considered the Crab Bowl the top in-state all-star game in the country. This will be the first year that we will add a 6th, 7th and 8th grade game into the tradition.  The game will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013 at McDaniel College. Please find the registration link below.

For those selected, there is a commitment fee of $100.00 to play in the Crab Bowl game.  This fee is part of the online registration and sign up for the game.

FBU, Chesapeake Bowl, and Crab Bowl Athlete Support:

The All Star Teams play a role in the entire process positioning student athletes to compete for college scholarships in the future. Throughout our evaluations of youth in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes each year, the All Star selections represent who we believe to be at the top of the classes in any given year. Only the top players from each class will be in line to get those scholarships when they leave high school. Where they are projected in middle school does NOT guarantee where they will be projected in high school, but if they are at the top of their classes in middle school, continue to work hard on and off the field and continue to develop, there is no reason why they won't be at the top of their classes during their junior and senior years when the offers are on the line.

With that being said, being selected for any one of our All Star Teams is a blessing and a tremendous opportunity for these young student athletes that can change their destinies. The life experience, the confidence, and the memories that will be gained by participating on these teams is invaluable. The opportunities for next level exposure is incomparable at this age and we don't want any of the kids to miss out on these opportunities because their parents can't afford the registration fees, or the travel in the cases where it is applicable.

If any of you out there believe in what we are doing at Grassroots and you want to help us help these kids and parents, please support us. We are providing a number of options for you to support.
