(7-3) Baltimore Metro Stallions 6; (9-1) Howard County Stars 24

On Saturday July 21st, Grassroots Bowl III brought an end to the 3rd season of the GYFL.  It was an amazing ride!  For the first 3 years, we never had 1 drop of rain at any of our games and we always considered that a blessing.  This year we did have to cancel 1 week of games due to intense heat and we had our Championship Game was in danger of being rained out!  One of the things we always do is thank God for the way He has blessed the league and our kids since the very beginning of this concept.  We set out on a mission to provide an outlet for youth football players to maximize their abilities, to play against elite competition that would make them better, and to showcase their talent like never before.

In three years, we have more success stories than I can even begin to mention.  God has been so good to us, so I don't even think about questioning the rain for Grassroots Bowl III.   It changed some things for us for sure.  We had partnered with Extra Point Productions to run the game day operations.  Tony Kennedy and his staff were going to "set it out" for the kids and the fans with some pre-game festivities that would have invigorated the crowd.  We were planning to break out the tents and put the smoke machines out so that the teams would get the experience of blasting through the smoke and the starters on offense for Baltimore would be announced the way the NFL does it, and the Howard County defense would be announced.  You can't do all of that stuff in the rain, so our plans were thwarted.  We tried our best to compensate, but we fell short a bit on the secondary introductions.  We had a DJ scheduled to come out and he actually came and set up, but the rain was getting on his equipment and he had to shut down.

With that being said, we were stunned to have the crowd that we had in that rain.  I looked up and saw all of those people and I couldn't believe it.  I can't thank you guys enough for coming out and supporting us.  I learned a lot about the GYFL fans!  You guys are in it with us no matter what I love you for it.  I dont' believe God makes mistakes so whatever His reasons were, we got the rain and we proved that we could persevere through it.  Maybe that was the message.  The kids came out and played their hearts out and we are so proud of them all.

To the Game.......
